Imparting top-class education

At the core of the Parikrma Model is the delivery of top-class education so that the children can have equal access to the best opportunities. There are several hurdles to making this happen. These children come from backgrounds where most of their families have not been through school. They come from households and communities that are full of limitations of the possibilities of living a dignified life. Add to that English is non-existent as a language of communication in the communities, making it a difficult task for children to learn and acquire proficiency in it.

To address this we have focused on a three-pronged strategy:

  • 1. Thrust on English language excellence English is crucial to competing equally, since most value-added jobs today, require an excellent grounding in English. So our medium of instruction for all our educational effort is English. We start with a unique 3-month English program aimed at kindergarten children that enables them to grasp the rudiments of the language and lay a foundation for being taught in English.
We have also launched a special program called 'English First', which aims to make Parikrma Centres for Learning, the best schools for English language education. To know more about this program, click here.
  • 2. Create a comprehensive and wide ranging Education Program For these children their world is their community - the slums they come from. Every form of limitation exists in these communities and our aim is help break those limitations for each child. Exposure to the world at large - art, sport, dance, theater, science beyond the classroom, field trips, movies etc. form an integral part of our overall education program, thus broadening their horizons and truly giving them a much larger vision of life.
  • 3. Make learning fun. Our task was to get the children to want to come to school rather than depending on the parents to force them to school. This was best done by making learning, fun. Our curriculum is delivered in a manner that engages a child to experience the learning and be totally involved in the process. And so our teachers, who are from regular mainstream schools, have to undergo in-depth training programs which orient them towards this mode of teaching as well as sensitizing them to the backgrounds of these children.

These activities are delivered through the Parikrma Centres for Learning.
