Airtel & Parikrma come together to offer wings of hope
Enter the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav and help hundreds of under-served children

Mumbai February 24, 2005: The ancient Indian sport of Kite Flying will come alive at the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav on Sunday, March 6 at the Field Marshall Manekshaw Parade Grounds.

The Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav is a unique celebration of the Indian art of kite flying done by corporate executives along with the under-served children from the slums and streets of Bangalore. Organizations are being invited to participate in this event by sending teams of 4 members to fly kites with Parikrma Children. The kites have been made by the children themselves.

The teams will be judged on four parameters of take off, flight, stability and descent. Well known personalities will be the judges. The winning team will get a rolling trophy.

This year the Parikrma Patang Utsav is being supported by Airtel. Their generous support means that Parikrma can reach out to more teams and get more companies to participate. The participation fee will go directly towards funding the development program for the children. By sending two teams, an organization would help Parikrma sponsor one child for an entire year.

Announcing Airtel's support to this event, Mr Deepak Mehrotra, Chief Operating Officer, Bharti Cellular Limited, Karnataka said, "Airtel is a socially responsible corporate which has always associated itself with a worthy cause. We are happy to partner with Parikrma Humanity Foundation in the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav . Their emphasis on quality education for poor children is what is unique about their program. Like Airtel, Patangs are a symbol of freedom especially of expressing yourself in many ways - irrespective of shape, size and colour."

The first edition of the competition was held in January 2004 at the Parikrma Centre for Learning in Sahakarangar. 29 Corporate teams participated in the fun-filled Patang Utsav which saw over a hundred executives flying kites made by the children of Parikrma. The first Parikrma Patang Utsav trophy was won by ADC Corporation.

Said Shukla Bose, CEO, Parikrma Humanity Foundation, "Our aim through the Patang Utsav is to provide our children exposure to successful people from the corporate world. This is very important if we have to instill hope in the children that indeed they could beat the odds and break their cycle of poverty. By supporting the Patang Utsav, Airtel has ensured that our children get that opportunity. We thank them for it."
