Airtel & Parikrma come together to offer wings of hope
Enter the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav and help hundreds of under-served children

Mumbai March 6, 2005: The ancient Indian sport of flying a patang came alive at the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav today at the Field Marshal Manekshaw Parade Grounds. The Governor of Karnataka, His Excellency Shri T.N. Chaturvedi inaugurated the event by flying the first kite. It was emotional moment when the children of Parikrma recited a poem on kites written specially for the event.

The Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav was a unique celebration of the Indian art of kite flying by corporate executives who enthusiastically participated along with the under-served children from the slums and streets of Bangalore. Teams from Infosys, Airtel, Mphasis, ING Vysya, Nokia, Manhattan Associates, KSRTC, Wipro, Titan, Levi's and Yahoo, were amongst the many other corporates who participated at the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav. And it was not just the corporate world that came together. Teams from the Bangalore Mahanagar Palike and The Indian Army also provided support to the event. The teams flew kites made by the children. The highlight of the event was the second round, which saw large kites take to the air. Each kite was hand painted.

An interesting feature was the exhibition of designer kites, where the children manned the counter telling people about the history of kites and the science behind the flight of the kites.

The team from _____ emerged as winners for the Airtel Parikrma Patang Utsav. The teams were judged on five parameters of ascent, flight, stability, teamwork and descent.

Well known personalities like Ashwini Nachappa, Prakash Padukone, Police Commissioner Mr. S. Mariswamy, Prasad Bidappa, Vani Ganapathy and Justice Saldahna were the judges for the event.

This year the Parikrma Patang Utsav was supported by Airtel. Their generous support meant that Parikrma could reach out to more teams and get more companies to participate. Their support also ensure that the participation fee would directly towards funding the development program for the children.

It was heartening to see so many organizations taking part and sharing their time with the children.
