 The Duke University Connection
The Duke University Talent Identification Program (Duke TIP) in India nominated Parikrma as one of the schools to attend this program. Since 1980, the Duke TIP has been a world leader in identifying academically talented students and providing innovative programs to support the development of their optimal potential. Nikhil and Phalitha G A from grade 8 were selected to go through a three-week summer program in Engineering Problem Solving in Ahmedabad.
Here is what Nikhil had to say
"The camp made me very excited. It also made me scared at the beginning because there were many new people and also because I was far away from what I knew very nicely. But I became more cheerful and more open then I was before and I can talk in front of a crowd better than before because they always made us talk freely and in front of everyone. I learnt so much about engineering and how bridges are built."
I loved the trip. We played many games together and that is the reason we became good friends. I made some new best friends. Everyone was excited. All the staff members were very good and always encouraged us to participate in everything. There were many activities there so I never got bored, every hour there was something else even more exciting. It was the best 3 weeks of my life. I enjoyed it. All of them became best friends and we played and worked together. I thank everyone who helped me to go there, as without them I couldn't have gone. I'm glad I finished all the given projects. I thank Duke TIP and I thank Parikrma.
Phalitha. G. - An experience of the Camp:
"For me Duke T.I.P was an experience of a lifetime. I made a lot of friends in the camp. I had a lot of fun. The T.I.P staff was really good. I.I.M.A is a dream for anybody, especially for me, even though I didn't really think of taking up management before. Over all it was a really good experience to meet and work with new people because here I don't see those things. I didn't just make friends but I made good and close friends. And everything went so smoothly that I didn't feel home sick even once. Since it included activities like dance and games I loved the camp. Everything went so smoothly that I can say that, I liked Ahmedabad because of Duke T.I.P."
