One People. One Planet.
Parikrma children from the four Centres came together on 1st March 2008 to celebrate the 5th Parikrma Annual Day, staging a grand theatrical spectacle “Around the world in 80 clicks” produced by the staff of Parikrma and performed by the children.
Take one child add all the worlds children divide by borders, multiply by countries cultures & languages, subtract all the differences and you have just that - one child. The theatrical beautifully depicted this truth no matter how different we are in many ways we are all one, evolved from one proverbial Eve. This string of commonness makes us One people of One planet.
The children put in a lot of effort along with the Parikrma staff to put up a breathtaking performance. They practiced each day and learned the customs, rituals and a lot more of the different countries. From the geisha dance of Japan, the gladiators of Rome to making costumes of Penguins. This was a joint effort of the teachers and children. Especially interesting was the making of the different costumes, putting together an rain forest of Brazil and making various other historical props. This entire show would be incomplete without the spectacular sounds and lights show which was worked out to suit the different countries with their relevant backdrops.
The journey around the world begins in a small classroom with a teacher and her curious students who travel across the World from the land of the rising sun Japan to the forests of Brazil and along the way pass the bushmen of Kalahari and aboriginals of Australia, Russian Ballet Dancers, mummies of Egypt and rich Sheikhs of the Middle East.
The parents enjoyed this magnificent performance, which for them was like watching a 3 hour movie. The most exciting for some of them was to see their children confidently and with great skill, put up their performances before an audience of over 2000 people.
This gave many of our children the opportunity to showcase their talent and for some this was a first time to be on stage in front of an audience and each one of them was just too good to be true!
Parikrma had indeed finished their 5th year in style and with the knowledge that both the children and parents were seeing a different world indeed.
