Parikrma is a nonprofit organsation, addressing the growing gap, in urban India, between those who benefit from the economic liberalization and the majority who do not. Rural migrants who come to the city in search of better lives, rely on education to get better jobs. Unfortunately, the government mass schooling system is in a state of disrepair. Dropout rates are close to 50% by class V and 70% by class VII. Attendance is as low as 15%. Further, the content of education is basic. Text books sub-standard, teachers poorly trained and teaching method outdated.
Why invest in Parikrma?

Parikrma Foundation has been running 4 K-12 schools since 2003 and serves thousands of children from 100 urban slums and 4 orphanages in Bangalore, India.
Who are the children?
The children come from families where the total family income for five members is about $ 150 per month.
The children at Parikrma come from backgrounds that are traumatic, often abusive and violent.Parikrma children come from homes, where:
- A few children have mothers who are sex workers, struggling to create a stable home
- Many children are being brought up by single, illiterate mothers, who have either fled from abusive husbands or have been abandoned
- Over 50% of the children have alcoholic fathers
- Many children come from families which have fled their villages for reasons such as social discrimination and extreme economic hardship.
Every year we also enroll several children who are refugees from Northeastern states, in India; they are often sent off alone by poor parents who are victims of the local insurgency and poor economic environment.
How are we doing this? The Parikrma Way™
This was achieved through what they call the Parikrma Way™ of doing things – which enables a learning environment that fosters curiosity and open-mindedness in children.
Beyond academics, the Parikrma Way™ also addresses the necessity for a moral compass in individuals through tested practices. The several programs that form the Parikrma Way™ are designed to achieve:
Develop the yearning to learn, for the new
Less bullying
Less aggression, violence
Less substance abuse
Less suicide or attempts to take life
Less vengefulness and hatred
Fewer acts of dishonesty like stealing, cheating, lying
Appreciation for stillness
Willingness to share and help
More respect for humans and animals and other forms of life
More compassion for the environment
Impact:
- This experiment has been very successful, with 98% of our graduates going on to college and 100% of alumni placed in jobs.
- Parikrma schools have an unbelievable record of 97% attendance and less than 1% dropout.
- Parikrma has impacted thousands of families in over 100 slums, increasing their income and quality of life
- 95% + parental attendance at Parent-Teachers meetings
- Parikrma students have consistently outperformed peers at Government schools
- Alumni work as entrepreneurs, social changemakers, social workers, teachers, nurses, actors, engineers, digital marketers, artists etc.
- A working model for the government schools: As a way forward, Parikrma has begun implementing the Parikrma Way™ within government schools, thus impacting the hundreds of students and teachers in these schools. We have so far adopted over 5 government schools.

Invest in a Child
When you invest in a Parikrma child, you are investing in the future of the marginalized in India. You are investing in a revolution for equal education. Your investment will take care of the complete Circle of Life program for a child Education, Nutrition, Health Care and Family Care. You will receive regular updates on the progress of your child, along with photos and stories, keeping you up-to-date with the many exciting happenings at our schools.
Invest in a Teacher
You could help us by sponsoring the salaries and benefits of our teachers We have about 120 teachers in all the Parikrma schools including Junior, Middle, Senior and Junior College).The salaries range from Rs 12,000 to 30,000 per month.
